Capernaum (“Chaos”) follows Zain, a gutsy streetwise child as he flees his negligent parents, survives through his wits on the streets, takes care of an Ethiopian refugee and her baby son and finally, seeks justice in a courtroom. The film was made with a cast of non-professionals playing characters whose lives closely parallel their own.
“With two astonishing child performances, Capernaum is a real heart-breaker. It can make Ken Loach look happy-go-lucky but it’s a gripping, sympathetic cry for the dispossessed.” – Empire
Winner of many awards, notably the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes, 2018

Amazing drama. As the father said ‘get me out of this hell’.
And people really do live like that!
Good old Shakespeare: All’s Well that Ends Well!
Powerfully poignant; beautifully acted.
Loved the music.
Very sad and moving.
A stunning film, sad but at least with a happy ending… perhaps.
Monstrously horrible and predictable.
